Paleontological Sciences Certificate (19 hours)

The Certificate in Paleontological Sciences is intended as structured additional study in for the Bachelor of Science in Geoscience (Geology Concentration - 1162 or Geosystems: Earth Science concentration - 1165) or as a standalone credential. This certificate ensures that students have taken additional classes in Geology to develop a deeper appreciation of the deep time biosphere and beyond the general requirements for the major.

Requirements: Complete the following courses with final grades of C or higher:

  1. GEOS 150 - Introduction to Oceanology (4)
  2. GEOL 220 - Methods in Field Geology (1)
  3. GEOL 350 - Principles of Paleontology (4)
  4. GEOL 360 - Sedimentology and Stratigraphy (4)

Complete at least 6 credit hours from the following courses with final grades of C or higher:

  1. GEOL 415 - Marine Geology (3)
  2. GEOL 401 - Research Participation* (3)
  3. GEOL 402 - Research Participation* (3)
  4. GEOL 475 - Travel Studies in Geology* (3)
  5. GEOL 485 - Special Topics in Geology* (1-3)
  6. GEOL 495 - Senior Research Project* (2+)

*Research, travel study, and special topic courses must be directly related to the paleontological sciences and are subject to approval by a departmental faculty.
