Museum Curation in Natural History Certificate (12-17 hrs)

The Certificate in Museum Curation in Natural History is intended as structured additional study for the Bachelor of Science in Geosciences, Biological Sciences or as a standalone credential. This certificate ensures that students have taken classes in historical and museum sciences to train them in the understanding and curation of natural materials in museum environments.

Requirements:


Complete the following courses with final grades of C or higher:

  1. GEOL 210 - Geoscience Literacy (1) OR ENGL 113 (3) - English for Technical Writers
  2. GEOL 465 - Geology Internship* (3)
  3. GEOL 485 - Special Topics in Geology: Museum Curation Sciences* (3)
  4. One of the following courses with collection component:
    1. BOT 303 - Plant Taxonomy (3)
    2. ZOOL 321 - Ornithology (3)
    3. ZOOL 325 - General Entomology (4)
    4. GEOL 350 - Principles of Paleontology (4)

Complete at least one of the following courses with final grades of C or higher. Courses successfully completed from the Requirements section may not be used here.

* Internship, travel study, and special topic courses must be directly related to museum or collections work and are subject to approval by the department faculty.
