Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Major in History (2910)
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a major in History consists of 42 credit hours of coursework and includes the completion of coursework to satisfy additional requirements of the BS degree. HIST 121-122, HIST 201-202, and HIST 299 are prerequisites for the major, which includes HIST 499 as well as 24 hours of upper level (300-400) History courses in three specific categories–American History, European History, and non-European World History–along with selected History electives, which allows History majors to tailor their upper-level coursework to each student’s specific interests. History majors also have opportunities to participate in unique travel experiences and select internships. This major requires a minor. Among the more popular minors for History Majors are Philosophy, Political Science, Art History, African American Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Geography, and English.

COURSEWORK REQUIRED FOR THE DEGREE
Note to students: Some degree programs include required courses for the major that are also options within the University-Wide General Education Requirements. If a student completes a course that simultaneously satisfies both a requirement for the major and a requirement for the University-Wide General Education Requirements, then the student may need to complete additional elective coursework in order to meet the minimum number of credit hours required for the degree.
Bachelor of Science Requirements
Complete a minimum of 42 credit hours in upper level (300-400) coursework.

Major Requirements (27 credit hours)
Complete 24 additional hours of upper-division (300-400) courses divided among three areas of study and upper level history electives: a) United States History, b) European History, and c) non-European World History. HIST 299 should be completed before commencing upper level studies. Majors must then complete at least six hours from each of the three areas of study:
United States History

World History

Upper Level History Electives
(Complete at least six hours)
Students may select any two upper level history courses from those listed above or the following special courses.*

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Portfolio Requirement
All history majors are required to maintain an electronic portfolio containing all major written assignments, beginning with HIST 299 , and continuing through upper level coursework, culminating in HIST 499 . The portfolio assignment will be evaluated in HIST 499 and will factor into the final grade in that course.
