COURSEWORK REQUIRED FOR THE DEGREE
Bachelor of Science Requirements
Guidance for choosing courses to meet general education and B.S. requirements:
The following courses satisfy general education requirements, are pre-requisites and co-requisites to the chemistry program and/or chemistry courses for the degree: CHEM 102 (4)/CHEM 121 (4), CHEM 122 (4), CHEM 201 (4), CHEM 202 (4), PHYS 111 (4), PHYS 112 (4), PHYS 220 (4), PHYS 221 (4), MATH 110 (4)/MATH 140 (3), and MATH 251 (4).
Where an honors course exists equivalent to any course listed above, that honors course will automatically substitute for the listed course. A student may use any combination of honors and regular versions of the respective courses in a given sequence.
Major in Chemistry with a Chemical Physics Concentration (66 credit hours)
Program-Specific Degree Requirements
- A student must earn a minimum grade of C in every course in the major.
- Students completing degree requirements for the Chemical Physics Concentration will also complete the requirements for a physics minor. An additional minor is optional.
Chemistry Major Core (28 credit hours)
These courses are required for every concentration in the chemistry major:
28 Credit Hours: All students must successfully complete the following courses:
Chemical Physics Concentration (38 hours)
These courses are required for the chemical physics concentration:
9 Credit Hours: Physics Courses
9 Credit Hours: Upper-Division Physics Electives:
8 Credit Hours: Chemistry Courses
4 Credit Hours: Upper-Division Chemistry Electives
8 Credit Hours: Supporting Courses
Minor
This BS concentration provides students with a minor in physics. An additional minor is optional.
Electives
- Complete elective hours to achieve 120 credit hours and achieve at least 42 credit hours of upper-division coursework. Elective hours include courses needed for employment, professional, or graduate school. Students planning to apply for graduate school are recommended to take PHYS 331 and CSCI 221 .
ADDITIONAL NOTES
-
Students should check course descriptions for prerequisites before planning to take a course. Some courses included as options may have prerequisites that do not satisfy the concentration.
-
Most upper-division chemistry courses are not offered every semester, and some are only offered every other year. Students should work closely with a chemistry advisor to plan when they will take courses.
