COURSEWORK REQUIRED FOR THE DEGREE
Guidance for choosing general education courses:
-
Biological and Physical Systems: A biology sequence, BIOL 130-BIOL140, and a chemistry sequence, CHEM 121-CHEM 122, are required as prerequisites for courses in this concentration and required for applications to colleges of veterinary medicine. Students should consider taking at least two of these courses to satisfy their Biological and Physical Systems category of general education. Failure to take these courses as part of their general education coursework may result in the need to take additional credit hours in order to complete prerequisites for courses required for the degree.
-
Mathematics: MATH 210 and one of: MATH 110, 140, 160, 185 or 251 are required for applications to colleges of veterinary medicine. Students should consider taking at least one of these courses to satisfy their Mathematics category of general education.
Note to students: Some degree programs include required courses for the major that are also options within the University-Wide General Education Requirements. If a student completes a course that simultaneously satisfies both a requirement for the major and a requirement for the University-Wide General Education Requirements, then the student may need to complete additional elective coursework in order to meet the minimum number of credit hours required for the degree.

(if not taken for general education requirement) -
Choose 2 - 10 hours of upper-division credits from the following categories: Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Fellows Research Program, Mathematics, Microbiology, Plant Science, Veterinary Health Technology, Wildlife Biology, Zoology, so that the total number of upper division science electives is 10 hours.
Note: Taking ACCT 201 and AGEC 405 plus 9 hours of upper-division Agricultural Economics courses add a minor in Agricultural Business.
A minor is not required. If students are interesting in completing a minor, preferred minors would include Business Administration (M-4010) or Agricultural Business (M-1170) or Spanish (M-2620). Students should work with their advisors to choose a minor that would complement their career plans.
