Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) - Major in International Studies

The B.A. with a major in International Studies is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for today’s more globalized world. Whether you plan to work in Tennessee, Washington DC, or abroad, understanding our complex world and its diverse population are crucial skills. The program develops students’ abilities to engage in critical thinking and communicate effectively. Students further develop marketable skills by becoming proficient in another language and participating in experiential learning opportunities like travel study, study abroad, internships, and Model UN. This major prepares students for eventual careers with US government agencies, international organizations, nonprofit/humanitarian organizations, international businesses, hospitality/tourism industry, and teaching English as a foreign language.

There are three concentrations in this major:

  • International Business and Development
  • International Diplomacy and Strategy
  • International Diversity and Multiculturalism

The International Business and Development Concentration pairs international business foundations in areas like economics, finance, marketing, and management with development issues such as food, health, community, and environment. This concentration prepares students for eventual careers with business industries, international organizations, non-profit/humanitarian organizations, the Peace Corps, USAID and government agencies, and the hospitality/tourism industry.
