Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management (B.S.N.R.M.) - Major in Natural Resources Management

The B.S.N.R.M. with a major in Natural Resources Management prepares graduates for employment with state or federal natural resources agencies or private sector positions, as well as for graduate studies in the various fields of Natural Resources Management.

There are four concentrations (one with two options) in this major:

Soil and Water Conservation
Wildlife and Fisheries Biology
Wildlife Science
Fisheries Science

Concentration in Park Administration Concentration (1151)

This curriculum is designed to prepare students for the proper management of natural, cultural, and recreational resources. Leadership positions in parks and other recreation settings require fundamental knowledge of basic principles from many disciplines which collectively emphasize the natural and cultural sciences as well as personnel and fiscal management, thus preparing students with leadership abilities and an applied understanding of the tools for park administration.

Flexibility is provided through restricted elective hours, allowing credit hours to be taken in a more specialized area of the park field. The curriculum includes supervised field experience with an approved park or recreational agency and applications are further illustrated by frequent trips to nearby national, state, and municipal park settings and private and commercial recreation attractions.

Employment opportunities include positions with federal, state, and municipal park agencies as well as a multitude of private, commercial, and volunteer organizations.

University Degree Requirements

120 credit hours are required.
Minimum 30 credit hours completed at The University of Tennessee at Martin.
Minimum 30 credits in Upper Division coursework (courses numbered 300-499).
Minimum 60 credits earned at an accredited four-year institution required.
A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required.
A minimum institutional GPA of 2.0 is required.
Must meet all General Education Requirements.
Must meet all Major Requirements.
If a Minor is required, must meet all Minor Requirements.
Must meet all Exit Exam Requirements.

Students may choose the Natural History Minor (6290) to meet the requirements of the Biology Electives (6 Hours) and the History and Geosciences Electives (6 Hours).

Restricted Electives (1 Hour)

Selected with the assistance of the student’s adviser based on the student’s career goals.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Field work involving physical activity is required for some course laboratories. Course syllabi will provide recommended footwear, clothing, etc.
Students may choose to pursue additional coursework to obtain certificates or minors. Advisors can recommend these based on student career aspirations.
Some pre-requisite courses require a grade of “C” or higher to take the next required course or to satisfy University graduation requirements. These include but may not be limited to Biology 130 and 140 and English 105, 111, 112, and 113.
