Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (B.S.Ag.) - Major in General Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture, Geosciences, and Natural Resources offers five-degree programs in Agriculture, Agricultural Business, Geosciences, Natural Resources, and Veterinary Science and Technology with multiple concentrations within each degree program. The agricultural production concentration provides a broad general education that includes courses from several subject matter disciplines in agriculture. More than 25 percent of the courses may be selected by students to give in-depth preparation in areas especially intriguing to them. This combination provides a good general education and a broad overview of the agricultural industry, while allowing specialization according to individual interests.

Complete 120 credit hours
Minimum of 30 credit hours completed at The University of Tennessee at Martin
30 credit hours in Upper Division coursework (courses numbered 300-499)
Minimum 60 credits earned at an accredited four-year institution
A minimum overall GPA of 2.0

If students are interesting in completing a minor, preferred minors would include Business Administration (M-4010) or Agricultural Business (M-1170) or Spanish (M-2620). Students should work with their advisors to choose a minor that would complement their career plans.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

One internship, AGRI 420 Supervised Field Experience - Credits: 3, is required for this degree. Some courses in this concentration require outdoor field work involving physical activity. Some animal science courses in this concentration require handling and care of livestock, poultry, horses, and companion animals, which involves physical activity.

Students can take the test for the Commercial Pesticide Applicators certification, offered through Tennessee Department of Agriculture, as part of PLSC 205 Introduction to Pesticides - Credits: 3
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certification can be obtained by completing 15 hours of GIS courses along with completing a major degree program.
