The Certificate in Music Education in a Secondary Area (Vocal Music) is intended as structured additional study for music majors seeking development of a skill set outside of their primary area. The certificate program provides rudimentary and advanced preparation in additional instrumental training with the intention of preparing student for teaching or performance outside of their primary area of study. Students will study vocal pedagogy, take private lessons, experience vocal ensemble performing, gain awareness of appropriate vocal literature selection, and develop an understanding of related rehearsal techniques specific to the vocal music genre.

Students who are not music majors will be considered by audition and interview; these students must apply for and be approved by the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) before taking MUED 406. Completion of this certificate does not lead to licensure in music education.
