Music, B.A.M. (2730)

The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree (2730) is designed for students who desire concentrated study in music as the central part of a broader education. The degree provides significant General Education and Musicianship/Performance components and a Supporting Elective Plan.

General Education (38 Semester Hours)


Lessons and Ensembles (18-20 Semester Hours)


Applied Lessons: (6 Hours)


Six (6) semesters of one of the following. Upper-division study is permitted, but not required.

Supporting Elective Plan (33 Semester Hours)


Students must develop a Supporting Elective Plan in consultation with their academic advisor. To ensure academic rigor, the Department of Music Curriculum Committee must approve the Supporting Elective Plan and any subsequent changes to it.

The Supporting Elective Plan must be submitted and approved during the second semester of the freshman year; transfer students must submit and receive approval for their Plan in their first semester. If the Plan is not submitted before students are nearly finished with their General Education courses, it may affect their financial aid.

The Plan must include at least 15 hours of upper-division courses. Minors and/or certificates can be included in the Supporting Elective Plan, but General Education courses cannot. Credit hours are limited for the following area:

  • MUAP and/or MUED: no more than 4 hours total between the two areas
  • MUS: no more than 19 hours​​​​​​​

Minimum Semester Hours: 120-122
