SPAN 250 - The Spanish-Speaking World Today: The Peoples and Cultures of Spain and Spanish America

An interdisciplinary study of the eighteen Spanish American countries and Spain. The course emphasizes contemporary lifestyles, customs, attitudes, and cultures of the peoples of these countries. Discussion of current trends in politics, education, media, and religion, as well as of literature and the arts (including popular culture). Discussion of these trends intended to illustrate important cultural values and attitudes, including the attitudes of Americans toward Spaniards and Spanish Americans and vice versa. No knowledge of Spanish required. Taught in English. SPAN 250 does not count toward major, minor, or Recognition of Proficiency in Spanish.
