Certificate in Church Music (music majors) - 13 credits

The Certificate in Church Music (music majors) allows students majoring in music to pursue further study in church music, often to enhance their career possibilities upon graduation. Topics addressed include religions, hymns, and church history; students can also elect to take courses to gain additional experience leading a church choir or a worship band. Any music major can add this certificate with approval of their advisor and the department chair.

This certificate is only for music majors; students majoring in another area should add the Certificate in Church Music (non-music majors).

*MUS, MUED, and MUAP courses may not be counted towards the certificate if required for a student’s degree program. For example, MUED 260 is required for all music education majors, so it cannot count towards both the music education major and the certificate; however, it can count for a student majoring in performance because MUED 260 is not required for that degree.

**As stated above, a student cannot count their primary lessons toward the certificate because they are required for their degree. However, if a student wishes to take lessons in another area to strengthen their musicianship, those other lessons can count toward the certificate.
