History Concentration: History and Pre-Library Science is designed for those students who wish to pursue a career in libraries or information literacy.  The research and writing emphasis of this degree provide students with many career opportunities.

In general, majors should work during their freshman and sophomore years toward the completion of the general education requirements and additional requirements toward the Bachelor of Science and the sophomore level methods course, HIST 299.

Some recommended minors for History and Pre-Library Science majors include foreign languages, English, philosophy, political science, international studies, mass media and strategic communication, women and gender studies, African American studies, or business.

Program-Specific Degree Requirements 

  • A student must earn a minimum grade of C in every course in the major. 
  • This B.S. concentration requires a minor. 

History and Pre-Library Science Requirements (24 hours)


Complete 24 additional hours of upper-division (300-400) courses divided among three areas of study and upper division history electives: a) American History, b) European History, and c) non-European World History. HIST 299  should be completed before commencing upper division studies.  HIST 499  should be completed in the final year of study.

Minor


This B.S. concentration requires a minor. 

Electives


Complete elective hours to achieve 120 credit hours and achieve at least 42 credit hours of upper-division coursework.
