A major in English consists of 46 hours: 15 hours of sophomore-level English courses and 31 hours of upper-division English courses. Students may select from among the following concentrations:

In general, majors should work during their freshman and sophomore years toward the completion of the general education requirements and additional requirements toward the Bachelor of Arts and toward completing at least one sophomore-level literature survey sequence.

English: Pre-Legal Studies 3+3 (2223), B.A.

English Concentration 4 (Legal Studies 3+3) provides, in concert with partner institutions, a faster way to move through the undergraduate program toward law school coursework at selected partner institutions.

Qualified students may apply to their selected partner institution law schools during their third year of study at UTM. If accepted, students may begin taking law school courses at the partner institution during their fourth year.  The coursework earned during that first year of law school will complete the students’ Bachelor of Arts degree at UTM.
