Equine Certificate Program

The Equine certificate for UTM students provides experience and knowledge in a specific area of interest, the horse industry. This can enhance a student’s college experience building on whatever major they are currently taking.

Equine Certificate Coursework (12 credit hours): for on-campus students

Core Equine Courses (10 credit hours):

ANSC 121 - Western Horsemanship Credit(s): 3
ANSC 210 - Introduction to Horse Science Credit(s): 3
ANSC 211 - Horse Science Laboratory Credit(s): 1
ANSC 430 - Stable Management Credit(s): 3

Elective Equine Courses* (minimum of 2 credit hours):

ANSC 301/302 (Equine focused special problems, 1)
ANSC 305/306 (Equine focused practicum in Animal Science, 2)
ANSC 401-402 (Equine focused research participation, 3)
ANSC 444 (Equine focused High-Impact Educational Practice in Animal Science, 1-3)
ANSC 451 (Equine Selection and Evaluation, 2)

*students must work with animal science faculty to plan elective coursework. ANSC 451, requires a minimum of four (five preferred) students for active participation in equine judging events.
