Purpose

The Human Resource Concentration within the MBA program at the University of Tennessee at Martin began its conception in Fall 2021. UT Martin graduates and graduates from other institutions did not have access to advanced critical human resource topics before this program was established.

This certificate is primarily designed to allow UT Martin MBA graduates and masters graduates from other institutions the ability to take 12 hours of advanced human resources classes to gain the knowledge they need to be successful. A secondary objective of this certificate is to allow graduates of any major to gain knowledge and skills in advanced human resources, regardless of the degree they pursued in undergraduate. This knowledge can then be used either to advance one’s self in the workforce or to pursue an advanced degree related to human resources.

Number of Hours

The graduate certificate in Human Resources will consist of 12 hours. 3 hours will be from a required, foundational, human resource management course MGT 750  with 9 hours of electives from the list below. If a learner can show that they have satisfactorily completed MGT 750 (or equivalent) then the learner will take 12 hours of electives.

Residency Requirements

Students pursuing the graduate certificate in HR must complete at least 9 hours of coursework in the certificate program at UT Martin. Students who have completed MGT 750  (or its equivalent) may use those 3 hours towards the HR certificate. No other transfer graduate coursework will be accepted towards the completion of the HR certificate.
