The Criminal Justice Option is available for those students who have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field. Students may elect to participate in the Law Enforcement Administration Certificate program, the Corrections Administration Certificate program, the 30-hour online master’s degree program, or all three. All degree seeking master’s students must complete a data analysis paper - the data may come from their agency, their internship, supplied by faculty, or use of secondary data sources. Students who enroll in the certificate programs only, without completing the requirement for the MSCJ, will receive their certificates after they have completed the required certificate coursework with an overall GPA of 3.0.
Graduation Requirements
Successful completion of a 5-question written comprehensive final exam in last semester. Students will select 4 questions and instructors of record will score each section. The student must earn a passing score of B. A rubric for each section of the comprehensive exam will be used.
Students who successfully complete 30 credit hours, which includes the 12 hours of four core courses and an additional 18 hours in criminal justice elective or certificate credit, successfully complete the comprehensive written final exam, and have maintained a GPA of 3.0 will be eligible for graduation from the MSCJ program. Students who enroll in the certificate programs only, without completing the requirements for the MSCJ, will receive their certificates after they have completed the required certificate coursework with an overall GPA of 3.0.
