COUN 783 - Clinical Mental Health Counseling

A survey of the history of mental health counseling and the counselor’s role in prevention, intervention, advocacy, conflict resolution, and policy development and legislation related to mental health services in community agencies, private practice, clinics, hospitals, and other institutions. Barriers to services will be identified and special attention will be paid to how the confluence of barriers impacts the counselor’s ability to assess and advocate for individual and community needs, to facilitate conflict resolution, to deliver services, and to secure resources for programs designed to serve vulnerable populations.

Prerequisite(s): admission to the graduate counseling program or consent of instructor.
